Major delays are impacting the Tyne and Wear Metro system due to a points failure. No trains have been able to exit the Gosforth depot in Newcastle, resulting in the suspension of some services. Operator Nexus reported “delays of over an hour systemwide” and advised passengers to seek alternative transportation. The company indicated that an “operational incident” was causing disruption on the Airport – South Hylton and Regent Centre – South Shields lines. A spokesperson stated, “Our staff are currently bringing trains off the Howdon depot with the aim of operating a limited service in this area and we will update when this is in place.” Trains are operating as usual between North Shields and St James. Nexus confirmed that Arriva, Stagecoach, and Go North East buses are accepting Metro tickets. Earlier this week, Metro services experienced similar delays following a power cut at the Gosforth depot. That power outage led to problems with the service’s signalling system.
