Glenn King, 32, of no fixed address in Lurgan, and Kevin McGuigan Jnr, 42, from Annacloy Park in Hillsborough, appeared at Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday, facing charges for the murder of children’s nurse Karen Cummings. Ms. Cummings was discovered unconscious with a severe head injury in Laurel Heights in Banbridge, County Down, on Saturday evening. She died at the scene. Mr. McGuigan also faces charges for possession of a double-barrelled shotgun and ammunition, as well as handling the allegedly stolen shotgun, with these offenses reportedly occurring between January 21 and December 14 of this year. Mr. King was arrested on Sunday, while Mr. McGuigan was apprehended on Saturday at the property where Ms. Cummings was found. Their court appearance on Wednesday was conducted remotely via videolink from Musgrave Police Station in Belfast. They spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth, and that they understood the charges against them. A detective constable informed the court that he could connect the men to the charges. Legal representatives for both defendants confirmed they would not be lodging applications for bail. A judge remanded them both into custody and adjourned the case until January 9. A vigil honoring Ms. Cummings, who worked at Daisy Hill Hospital, is scheduled for Thursday evening at Solitude Park in Banbridge. This content is copyrighted by BBC 2024. All rights are reserved.
