Authorities have apprehended two individuals subsequent to a collision involving a motorcycle and a 17-year-old cyclist, which resulted in serious injuries to the teenager. The motorcyclist involved did not remain at the site of the incident, departing the scene. Consequently, a section of Banbury Road in Summertown, Oxford, was closed to traffic from approximately 08:20 to 17:00 GMT on Monday. The injured boy was transported to a hospital due to life-threatening injuries and continues to be hospitalized in a critical state. According to Thames Valley Police, a 51-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy, both residents of Oxford, were taken into custody in relation to the event. The adult male is still being held, whereas the juvenile male has been released and will not face charges. The crash occurred specifically between the intersections of Beechcroft Road and Oakthorpe Road. The man’s arrest was made on suspicion of several offenses, including fraudulently using a registration, failing to stop following a road traffic collision, and causing serious injury through dangerous driving. Det Sgt Tony Jenkins, from the serious collision investigation unit, stated: “This collision has occurred on a busy stretch of the Banbury Road in the morning rush-hour and resulted in the road being closed for much of the day on Monday. It has now re-opened.” He added: “Sadly, a boy has sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.” Det Sgt Jenkins urged anyone who observed the incident, or who possesses dash-cam or CCTV recordings, to contact authorities.
