An application has been submitted by adventurers from Devon, seeking verification of a potential new world altitude record achieved through a flight in a tandem electric paramotor. Ross and Hugo Turner, also known as the Turner Twins, made an attempt this month to pilot a paraglider-style aircraft to an altitude of 10,000ft (3,050m) in the French Alps. The brothers confirmed reaching 8,000ft (2,438m) and stated that their application is awaiting verification, with an expectation of learning the outcome within the coming weeks. They also mentioned that the aircraft, featuring a custom-built motor, had undergone a five-month development period. According to them, the attempt necessitated “several months of waiting for the right weather.” Ross Turner noted that their official observer, tasked with monitoring and confirming the attempt, possessed over 40 years of experience in paragliding. He stated: “We came along with our novice idea and technology, he said we won’t have enough power, this won’t work. “We’ve had it before on other expeditions where experts say: ‘No, this won’t work.'”Dare I say our fresh mind and pioneering spirit, we have to balance the risk versus reward and, thankfully, we proved him wrong on a couple of occasions.”” “The weather has been very unfriendly,” the twins noted in a discussion about their world record attempt. Hugo Turner further remarked: “That’s exactly where we want to be as adventurers… testing, pushing the envelope of emerging technology.”It’s good people who have got decades of experience are saying: ‘No, this isn’t going to work’ and we prove them wrong. “It’s exactly what we want to be doing.”” The brothers have previously established world records, notably as the first twins to successfully row across the Atlantic Ocean.
