Tulisa Contostavlos has stated that she feels “overwhelmed” following her departure from I’m A Celeb, indicating a need for a break to prioritize her mental well-being. The N-Dubz member and former X-Factor judge was eliminated as the third contestant from the ITV program. Rumors began circulating after she deleted all Instagram content related to the series and did not participate in the spin-off program I’m a Celebrity… Unpacked. However, in an Instagram video, Tulisa explained that she is “getting a lot of attention,” which she has found challenging to manage. The Sight of You singer remarked, “A lot of bombarding, in all the most positive way but because it’s been a bit of a while for me, I can get overwhelmed quite easily.” She added, “I just need to take a bit of time for me and just chill and this is all just feeling a little bit much at the moment.” Tulisa further mentioned her decision to archive all posts shared on her behalf during her time on the show, describing them as “random” and “not the way I would do my Insta.” She stated, “When the time is right and I’ve had a little time to process, I’m going to make my own reels of my best bits that I really like.” Regarding an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine, Tulisa also provided clarification on remarks that seemed to imply some of her fellow campmates were “fake.” She asserted, “I don’t think any of my campmates are fake.” She explained that she was “thinking out loud” and had merely intended to convey that certain friendships would develop more strongly than others. She added, “I love my jungle buddies, I love my jungle fam.” She continued, “But friendships that people have really, really get nurtured and they become something that’s like, ‘wow this is a friend for life’.” “That’s all I was trying to say,” she concluded. She noted that being in the jungle with individuals she had only recently encountered had been challenging for her, identifying herself as “an introvert.” “And then I come out and I’ve seen loads and loads of attention and I’m like, woah this is a lot,” she expressed. The 36-year-old London native gained recognition in the 2000s as a member of N-Dubz, subsequently embarking on a solo career and serving as an X-Factor judge in 2011. She largely withdrew from public life in 2014 when she faced charges after an undercover reporter from The Sun alleged she had arranged a deal to provide Class A drugs. The drug trial concluded unsuccessfully after the reporter was discovered to have falsified his testimony, and Tulisa informed Newsbeat at that time that it marked a significant low point in her life. She has also discussed her diagnosis with Bell’s Palsy—a form of paralysis that temporarily impairs control over facial muscles—and undergoing surgery and receiving fillers when the condition caused her face to “drop.” In her video, she conveyed that she is still “trying to overcome” the difficulties in her life, having been “out of the spotlight for a long time.” “I’ve still got my little demons,” she admitted. She clarified, “It doesn’t mean I’m going to hide back under a rock for another 10 years, it just means I need a little bit of time to just process and get right with my thoughts.” Earlier in the series, Tulisa disclosed to her campmates her identification as demisexual, requiring “to have a really close emotional bond with someone” prior to finding them sexually attractive. She stated that since exiting the jungle, public discourse about her has been “positive,” yet she still finds the situation challenging. “Mental health is important and I am super grateful for all the love and support I’ve had,” she emphasized. She concluded, “I’m gonna have a week just becoming at one with my thoughts. I will be back.” Newsbeat broadcasts live at 12:45 and 17:45 on weekdays, with past episodes available for listening.
