A major initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian accessibility within a town centre has achieved a “significant milestone”. Manvers Street, Fore Street, and Wicker Hill, located in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, having been closed since May as part of a £16m redevelopment project. The undertaking is currently transitioning into its third and concluding phase, which will concentrate on upgrading footpaths along Hill Street. Councillor Nick Holder, who serves as the council’s cabinet member for highways, verified that “all local businesses will remain open throughout this final phase”. The recent enhancements encompassed the widening and resurfacing of footpaths, the establishment of dedicated parking and loading bays, the installation of new street furniture, and the execution of vital drainage operations. Wiltshire Council stated that the third phase is set to commence on Monday and will be coordinated with scheduled utility work to reduce inconvenience for both residents and businesses. Mr. Holder commented that the upgrades implemented on Manvers Street and Fore Street are contributing to making the centre “more vibrant and connected”. He added, “We understand that improvements of this scale can cause temporary disruption, and we appreciate everyone’s patience whilst we complete the works.” The initiative receives its funding from the government’s £16m investment allocated to Trowbridge through the Future High Streets Fund.
