Three individuals have been brought before a court, facing charges of attempted murder, subsequent to a shooting incident involving a man at a retail establishment in Glasgow. Gary Rooney, aged 32, Darren Beaton, 35, and Stephen Preston, 20, are alleged to have perpetrated the assault on Javaid Akhtar at the aforementioned premises located on Drumoyne Road, Govan, on October 25. According to court documents, the three individuals, operating in concert, are stated to have “repeatedly discharged a firearm” at Mr Akhtar, resulting in severe injuries and placing his life in jeopardy. The defendants did not enter a plea regarding the accusation and have been ordered to remain in custody pending their subsequent court hearing. During a closed session at Glasgow Sheriff Court, the men also faced an additional charge of attempting to obstruct justice by igniting a Ford Fiesta vehicle in the vicinity of Edinbaret Nursing Home in Clydebank. Following the assault, Mr Akhtar was transported to a hospital, where his medical condition was reported as stable. Sheriff Patrick Hughes ordered Rooney, identified as being from Clydebank, along with Beaton and Preston, both from Drumchapel, to be held for additional investigation. Their next court appearance is scheduled to occur within the upcoming eight-day period.
