Following the death of Caroline Miller, former chief executive of Birmingham Royal Ballet, colleagues have offered their tributes. They characterized her as a “leading light” who demonstrated “unbridled enthusiasm, dedication and loyalty”. Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) stated that Ms. Miller introduced vision and energy upon her appointment to the position in 2018. She resigned from the role on 5 December due to health reasons, having previously expressed that leading the company was among the greatest honors of her life. Sir David Normington, the ballet’s chairman, conveyed that the organization was devastated by her passing. He further stated that “a force of nature, an inspiration and a dear friend” had been lost. Early in her career, Ms. Miller held a position as a press officer at Sadler’s Wells theatre. Additionally, she had served as a chief executive and director for various other dance organizations, such as Dance UK and Orlando Ballet in Florida. She received an OBE in January 2017 for her contributions to the arts, as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honours. Carlos Acosta, the ballet director, offered a tribute to his friend and colleague, stating that Ms. Miller “brought fantastic energy, sound advice, vision and good humour to everything she did”. He further commented: “Her unparalleled support contributed immeasurably to the many successes BRB has enjoyed internationally.” He concluded: “On behalf of all of us at BRB I give heartfelt thanks for her unbridled enthusiasm, dedication and loyalty. She will be remembered with much fondness by all.” Readers can follow BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram. This report is copyrighted by BBC in 2024. All rights are reserved.
