Motorists have been advised to anticipate traffic delays following another incident where a well-known bridge in Leicestershire was struck by a heavy goods vehicle. This railway overpass, situated on the A5 Watling Street in Hinckley, which was once referred to as the “most bashed” in Britain, experienced a collision with a lorry on Friday morning. Leicestershire Police reported that the thoroughfare has since reopened, though the force noted the continued presence of “heavy traffic.” The driver of the lorry sustained no injuries, and the railway structure incurred no serious damage, the police department further stated. The same bridge had previously sustained an impact earlier in November and was also involved in a collision with a lorry during the previous month. Between 2017 and September 2022, it was hit by oversized vehicles on 88 separate occasions. A report published last year indicated that the frequent occurrences involving the bridge had resulted in expenses totaling thousands of pounds for the local economic sector.
