A woman organizing a toy collection for children in Jersey whose parents face financial difficulties during Christmas reported an “overwhelming” public response. Charlotte Riley initiated the appeal earlier this month by posting on Facebook, requesting islanders to contribute gifts for children from families experiencing financial hardship around Christmas. Ms Riley’s initiative currently aims to assist eight children, though she anticipates additional families will seek support. Parents are invited to provide their child’s name, age, and interests, enabling Ms Riley to match them with suitable gifts. Ms Riley stated her goal was to “make this Christmas magical for every child – because every child deserves a special holiday,” emphasizing that parents should not feel “shame or embarrassment” when seeking assistance. She added, “They [parents] can speak to me on a personal level.” Furthermore, she mentioned, “We can arrange for them to be able to collect something without even having for them to see me if that’s what they wish.” Ms Riley described the willingness of people to help as “amazing.” She commented, “The amount of support has been overwhelming. I’m a little bit worried about where I’m going to store everything, to be perfectly honest.” Post navigation South East BBC Radio Teams Prepare for Children in Need Swim Challenge Hampshire & Isle of Wight: Daily Photo Feature
