Jordan Young is set to be available for his debut appearance in Torquay’s upcoming match against Chelmsford on Saturday. Paul Wotton, manager of Torquay United, stated that circumstances “aligned” to facilitate the acquisition of Yeovil Town striker Jordan Young. The 24-year-old player transferred to Plainmoor earlier this week for an undisclosed sum, signing an agreement that binds him to the club through the summer of 2027. Last season, Young netted 16 goals, contributing to the Glovers’ victory in the National League South title. “I’m very pleased to get him in,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon. “He’s a player I’ve known about for a long time, he excelled last year in the Yeovil side that were the best team in the league by a mile.” “He brings creativity, he brings pace, he brings experience of winning and adds to our squad. Sometimes the stars align and it fell into place.” This marks the second instance Torquay has paid a transfer fee for a striker since the club’s acquisition by new ownership during the summer period. In July, The Gulls acquired Cody Cooke from Bath City for an undisclosed fee, as Wotton assembled a new squad following the previous season’s financial difficulties. “The board are brilliant,” he added. “I highlighted the player, the pros and cons for the deal to go through, the length of contract.” “He’s only young, he’s 24, he’s got his best years ahead of him, so I think it shows tremendous support from the board.”
