Tom Sparrow, who had an opportunity to give Motherwell the lead against Celtic, stated that making his first start for the club against Celtic will serve him well. This comes as the Steelmen get ready to face the other half of the Old Firm for a place in the League Cup final. The midfielder, having recently recovered from minor surgery, played alongside Marvin Kaleta, who was also making his debut start, during Sunday’s 3-0 home loss to the champions. Sparrow had an opportunity to score the first goal but was unable to get past Kasper Schmeichel from 20 yards out, after which Celtic gained dominance in the match. Motherwell is scheduled for a league match away to Dundee United on Wednesday, prior to their journey to Hampden on Sunday for the semi-final encounter against Rangers. Wales Under-21 international Sparrow commented: “I’ve been working hard since I came in and I knew that I wouldn’t be going straight in. But I’m happy to have got the first one and hopefully there’s more to come.” He added: “I knew it was going to be a lot of running. But they’re top-quality opposition so when you’ve got the ball you need to look after it, because otherwise you’re going to spend a lot of time without it.” Sparrow also stated: “I thought that they had a lot of the ball but at times we weren’t bad either and definitely caused them some problems.” He further remarked: “Obviously it was my first one against Celtic but there were a few lads who again it was their first one. Obviously there are a few that have done it a lot of times but we’ll only get better for it and in the future we’ll definitely learn the lessons.” Concluding, Sparrow said: “You’re playing against top-quality opposition, you switch off for one second and you’re going to get punished.” Post navigation Expert Foresees Celtic Advantage in Brugge Encounter Linfield Extends Lead to Eight Points as Portadown Defeats Nine-Man Cliftonville
