Tom Cleverley, who is currently the manager of Watford and previously played for the club, has acknowledged the significant impact of former Hornets boss Marco Silva. Cleverley credited Silva with enhancing his performance as a player and shaping his approach to management. Speaking to BBC 3CR, Cleverley stated, “He is one who has had real influence on the way I coach.” He further elaborated on Silva’s clarity during his playing days, adding, “As a player, I felt [he] was completely clear on the job he wanted from me.” Silva, presently with Fulham, previously managed Watford in the Premier League during the 2017-18 season. Every decision he made, made complete sense.” While Silva was 40 when he assumed leadership at Watford, Cleverley, at 35, is establishing his reputation in his inaugural full season as manager. His team currently holds an unbeaten record in 15 home matches and occupies sixth place in the Championship table. Cleverley also had experience playing under Omar Riza, the current manager of Cardiff City, whom he is scheduled to face on Saturday. Cleverley disclosed, “He is someone I respect. Returning from injury in two under-21s games, I played under Omar.” He added, “[He is] not afraid to have fresh ideas. We have to be ready to adapt on the day.” Commentary for the Cardiff versus Watford match will be broadcast on 103.8FM on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.
