An online TikTok influencer, responsible for publishing “nauseating” anti-Semitic videos, has been handed two suspended prison sentences. Fiona Ryan, aged 40, who commands a TikTok following exceeding 50,000, was convicted on four counts concerning “highly offensive” content disseminated between March and April. Earlier this month, she admitted guilt to two additional charges stemming from October 2023, involving posts on X that were “showing support and glorification for the actions of Hamas”. Ms. Ryan, a resident of Salisbury, Wiltshire, received her sentencing at the local magistrates court on Thursday. She received a 12-week suspended prison sentence for four distinct offences of transmitting offensive communications in 2024, alongside an eight-week suspended sentence for the two offences committed in 2023. These sentences are to be served consecutively. District Judge Timothy Pattinson characterized Ryan’s remarks as “disgusting and nauseating” and stated they were “motivated by hostility based on race and religion”. The prosecutor, Mr. Cooper, informed the court that the four offences from 2024 encompassed multiple social media messages. Victim impact statements were presented, including one from Alexandra Boyd, a former Wilton Town Councillor and a member of the Jewish community. She stated that the content published by Ryan “shattered my sense of security” and “left me feeling vulnerable and targeted”. Furthermore, the court heard testimony from Ryan’s neighbours, who reported that the continuous playing of a song concerning antisemitism—set to the melody of ‘If you’re happy and you know it’—caused them to “feel angry and disgusted”. They further indicated that Ryan’s conduct led them to “fear for their lives”. Residing on Laverstock Road, Ryan informed the court that she was “remorseful” for having posted the material. Additionally, she received a sentence of 20 weeks’ rehabilitation and was mandated to pay a victim surcharge of £154 along with prosecution costs amounting to £650. Correction – 15 November: A previous iteration of this report erroneously claimed that Alexandra Boyd had resigned from her position due to the content. Her resignation occurred for a different, unrelated reason. For updates, follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X, and Instagram. Story ideas can be submitted via email or WhatsApp at 0800 313 4630.
