A woman has received a prison sentence for falsifying the £4 million will of her former head teacher. In 2021, Leigh Voysey asserted that she had been designated the sole heir in the testament of Maureen Renny, located in Much Hadham, Hertfordshire. Following Ms. Renny’s death, her relatives harbored suspicions of forgery and subsequently alerted law enforcement. In October, Voysey, 46, residing on Standon Road in Little Hadham, entered a guilty plea to charges of fraud and forgery. Concurrently, two other individuals confessed to forgery. Their sentencing took place at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday. Voysey had previously attended the Barn School, which was operated by Ms. Renny, departing more than three decades prior. Hertfordshire Police stated that Voysey “befriended” Ms. Renny on a single occasion before her demise and subsequently asserted her inclusion in the will. Two of Voysey’s acquaintances “verified” and served as witnesses to the document. Det Con Sian Beames, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Serious Fraud and Cyber Unit, commented, “Voysey saw an opportunity to wrongfully make a claim to ownership of the estate.” Beames further described the investigation as “extremely complex and long running.” “The family, with help from our detectives, was able to prove that this was an opportunistic attempt to steal the family’s inheritance and keep the proceeds for herself and her accomplices,” Beames stated. The legitimate beneficiaries of the estate were also compelled to undergo an extensive civil trial, incurring costs amounting to thousands. She concluded, “The impact on them has been huge in terms of mental, physical and emotional distress.”
