Three individuals have faced court proceedings, having been accused of riot, in the wake of extensive national unrest. Riley Adey, aged 19, and Josh Kellet, aged 29, both residents of Washington, along with Leanne Hodgson, 43, residing on Holborn Road in Sunderland, presented themselves at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court to answer the riot charge. These individuals stand accused of participating in the public disorder that erupted in the city on 2 August and, should they be convicted, could receive a maximum custodial sentence of 10 years. The defendants did not enter any pleas and were subsequently transferred to Newcastle Crown Court, granted unconditional bail until their subsequent court appearance scheduled for 29 November. The disturbance in Sunderland was among numerous similar incidents that occurred throughout the United Kingdom, including in locations like Middlesbrough, Darlington, Rotherham, Bolton, Birmingham, and Belfast. These events were triggered by the fatalities of three young girls, who sustained fatal stab wounds during a dance workshop held in Southport.
