Law enforcement efforts aimed at addressing crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) have resulted in the apprehension of three individuals. From 21 November to 8 December, a Peterborough neighbourhood policing team dedicated 175 hours to patrols within the Millfield area, focusing on combating ASB and drug dealing. The team also engaged with local councillors to explore potential multi-agency strategies for deterring individuals responsible for creating problems within the city. Sgt Sarah Phillips of Cambridgeshire Constabulary stated: “The aim for this period of focus was for us to concentrate on issues that have been highlighted as a concern by the community and allowed us to carry out a range of tactics.” Over the course of the 18-day operation, a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) applicable to Millfield was enforced eight times, leading to the confiscation of alcohol and the dispersal of individuals from the vicinity. Additionally, police officers carried out three arrests. One male individual faced charges for violating his Criminal Behaviour Order and for outraging public decency. A second male was taken into custody on suspicion of committing sexual and public order offences. The third individual was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and involvement in the supply of Class B drugs. Sgt Phillips commented: “This work has been carried out as part of Alliance, which is a campaign to regenerate Millfield by tackling criminality in the area in a bid to make it an all-round better place for the community.” She further explained that this initiative involves “us using a variety of targeted operations and policing tactics by working with partner agencies and residents in the area to reduce the levels of organised criminality.” Sgt Phillips concluded: “I hope this work shows the community that we are committed to tackling their concerns and urge them to continue reporting any issues to us so we can continue this work.”
