The payment application PayPal confirmed on Thursday that it experienced a brief global service disruption. The company indicated on its service status page that it was dealing with “a system issue” impacting various PayPal Products, including account withdrawal and express checkout functionalities. While the company stated that the technical problem was swiftly resolved, even a minor interruption proved problematic for customers. Users reported being unable to log in to their accounts or encountering difficulties making payments. By 12:12 GMT, Downdetector, a platform that monitors outages, had recorded more than seven thousand user reports. According to the company’s service status dashboard, the incident commenced at 10:53 UTC. PayPal also noted that its cryptocurrency services and its peer-to-peer payment application, Venmo, were among those impacted by the disruption. Customers resorted to social media platforms to post about their inability to access their accounts. On X, formerly Twitter, multiple users shared screenshots displaying an alert that read “please check your entries and try again” when they attempted to log in. Established in 1998, PayPal has evolved into a significant global financial institution. The company informed investors in October that its total number of active accounts across its operations had soared to 432 million in the period ending 30 September. Copyright 2024 BBC.
