Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin expressed his desire for his team to begin with intensity at Easter Road this evening, following his statement that the Dons’ slow start against St Mirren on Saturday was “not the way we want to act”. The Dons, currently in second place, conceded a goal within 19 minutes during their match in Paisley, ultimately suffering a 2-1 defeat. This result concluded their undefeated league run and positioned them three points adrift of Celtic. “We had a good chat with the staff and the players, we always do things together when we want to talk about some parts,” manager Thelin stated. He added, “For us it was the thing we were not happy with. The result is always the result but it is important to have a good performance and the first 20, 25 minutes of the game we were not happy with that, how we performed, how we acted as a team, the identity we want to show, so that is the thing we put the focus on.” Thelin conveyed his conviction that the recent loss will not impede the positive trajectory his squad has established, as they aim to recover against Hibs, who currently occupy the bottom position in the league standings. He further commented, “A season is long, you know you are going to win some games and sometimes you are going to lose and draw.” Thelin continued, “We are not alone in the league, there are a lot of good teams. So I don’t think there is going to be any impact at all from our behaviour or our belief because it is still a long-term process, nothing has changed in that.” “We still have things to do, we have to be more stable in some parts of the game, for example how we start. That is the first part of our journey, to be more consistent and accountable in these situations and then we can add things to our game model and identity,” he concluded.
