The removal date for temporary traffic lights, installed in Shrewsbury after a significant collision and cited as a cause of local traffic congestion, remains undetermined by authorities. In November, a lorry collided with two structures on the A49 in Bayston Hill, resulting in partial destruction of both the Three Fishes Pub and the adjacent Hong Kong City takeaway. National Highways stated that the traffic lights, which have been operational since the incident, will stay until the firms undertaking repairs to the affected buildings verify that there is no danger of structural collapse. The organization informed the BBC, “Structural investigations are ongoing and so presently we have no timescales for the repair work.” It further mentioned that traffic management strategies were under review, and that extra signage had been implemented to guide vehicles and pedestrians. Additionally, the lights were being operated manually during peak times to alleviate traffic jams. A spokesperson conveyed, “We would like to thank road users and the local community for their patience while we manage traffic around the work and we will provide updates as soon as they become available.” The driver of the lorry involved in the collision with the buildings on 11 November required extrication by firefighters and was subsequently transported to a hospital. Although the family operating the takeaway resided within the affected building, no injuries were reported. The pub was in the process of being transferred to new ownership prior to the incident.
