A teenager has been commended by the RSPCA for a photograph she captured of a horse that appeared to be laughing. Freya, aged 15, entered the image into the charity’s Young Photographer Awards 2024. The picture featured the horse, Galaxy, in the act of yawning into the wind. She spent numerous hours observing rescue ponies situated at the end of her street. These ponies eventually “got curious, and would gallop up to say hello”. The Sheffield teenager stated, “I love the wind lifting the mane and the single beam of sunlight catching the copper in Galaxy’s forelock.” The photograph, which is titled ‘Screaming’, was recognized at an awards ceremony held on Thursday at the Tower of London. The overall winner for this year’s competition was Welsh teenager Anwen Whitehead, with her photograph of a puffin, titled ‘Daydreaming in the chamomiles’.
