An arrest has been made in West Yorkshire, where a teenager is suspected of causing serious injury through dangerous driving. This follows a collision involving a vehicle that police were pursuing on a motorway. According to West Yorkshire Police, a white Toyota Corolla, traveling on the M62, collided with a Peugeot 306 near Junction 24 for Huddersfield around 15:00 GMT on Saturday. The driver of the Peugeot 306 is still hospitalized with serious injuries, the force confirmed. A spokesperson for the force stated that an 18-year-old woman, taken into custody on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop for officers, and motor vehicle theft, has been interviewed and subsequently released while investigations continue. Additionally, three other females – two 17-year-olds and one 19-year-old – who were also arrested for suspected motor vehicle theft, have been granted bail. West Yorkshire Police indicated that the pursuit was initiated after the Toyota’s driver did not comply with officers’ instructions to stop on the M621, as the vehicle proceeded towards the M62 near Birstall. Officers confirmed that the Toyota had been reported stolen from New York Street in Leeds on Friday. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed, which is standard protocol for incidents of this kind. Members of the public who witnessed the event or possess information regarding the incident are encouraged to contact the police.
