A court has been informed that an Edinburgh woman was murdered by a teenager using a substantial ‘Rambo’ knife during an altercation concerning an e-scooter. The 17-year-old male, whose identity is legally protected, repeatedly stabbed Danielle Davidson, aged 33, on Constitution Street in Leith during May of the previous year. The High Court in Glasgow was presented with information detailing a “history of antagonism” culminating in the event, which the boy confessed to last week. Testimony in court indicated that the boy had faced accusations of e-scooter theft, and a man attempted to retrieve it from him during the confrontation, prior to the boy attacking Ms Davidson with his knife. Prosecutor John McElroy KC stated that Ms Davidson had arranged to encounter the boy alongside her friend, Conlan Carr. Mr. McElroy remarked: “It is understood there was a recent history of antagonism between Carr and the accused.” The boy, who was masked, arrived with a friend on e-scooters, and the boy’s father also appeared at the scene. An argument ensued between the father and Mr. Carr, who was observed holding a knife. Subsequently, the boy produced his own substantial knife and brandished it towards Carr. Mr. McElroy commented: “During the course of this argument, Carr seemed to be attempting to take the accused’s scooter.” The court was informed that after the father’s attempts to de-escalate the situation proved unsuccessful, the boy proceeded to attack Ms. Davidson with his knife. She was transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she succumbed to her injuries, which included a punctured lung caused by a blow. The boy subsequently fled to a nearby supermarket, where he changed his attire in a restroom, before taking a taxi to a different part of Edinburgh. He contacted his aunt and uncle, who collected him and subsequently notified the police. Mr. McElroy stated: “The accused made admissions to them such as: ‘I have done the crime, so I will do the time’.” He informed his relatives that individuals had brandished knives at him, necessitating self-defense. He further “explained to his uncle that the weapon he had was a big ‘Rambo’ knife.” Iain McSporran, representing the defense, asserted that the boy had been “exploited” since the age of 13 or 14, becoming involved in “street level” drug dealing. Mr. McSporran indicated that an associate of Mr. Carr had sought to inflict “serious violence” upon the boy due to the alleged theft of an e-scooter. The boy held the belief that he had been “set up” for an attack on that particular night. However, Mr. McSporran stated that no evidence existed to indicate Ms. Davidson’s involvement in this situation or her awareness of any premeditated assault. He concluded: “He is at a loss to explain rationally why he chose to attack Danielle Davidson.” The boy is presently held in a secure unit and is scheduled for sentencing next month.
