Police have apprehended two teenage boys in connection with a serious assault on a 12-year-old girl. Authorities responded to a report of an assault near the Harbour Road car park in Barry Island around 17:00 GMT on Sunday. The 12-year-old victim was transported to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, suffering serious injuries, though her condition is reported as not life-threatening. South Wales Police confirmed an ongoing investigation, stating they are classifying the event as a stabbing. A 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were taken into custody on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. Additionally, the 13-year-old faces suspicion of possessing a bladed article. Both individuals are currently held in police custody. Detective Inspector Phil Marchant of South Wales Police commented that the nature of the incident and the ages of those involved “will cause worry within the community”. He further stated that the two suspects, known to the victim, were apprehended within an hour, and law enforcement is not seeking any additional individuals.
