Taylor Bevan, a silver medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, is set to begin his professional boxing career. He will compete in the super-middleweight category after securing a long-term promotional contract with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. The 23-year-old Welsh boxer previously earned his silver medal in the light-heavyweight division at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. However, he did not qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, having been defeated in the qualifying rounds. In August, Bevan disclosed his departure from the Team GB Boxing program, where he had been for two and a half years. His professional debut is scheduled for November 30. He will appear on the undercard of the bout between Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai, taking place at the BP Pulse LIVE venue in Birmingham. Bevan stated, “I feel like I’ve been waiting to turn pro for a long time.” He added, “It’s something that since I started boxing, I’ve always wanted to do. Matchroom is one of the biggest companies out there in the sport and I’m just really looking forward to it.” Bevan’s professional career will commence with training under the direction of Colin Jones, a former British, European, and Commonwealth welterweight champion. This training will occur at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. He further commented, “My training team, Colin Jones and Sean McGoldrick, they’re very experienced as well.” Bevan also noted, “I’ve trained with the Wales team for about seven years now, so I trust them, and I know they’ve got my best interests at heart. I’m really looking forward to turning pro with them.” Describing his fighting approach, he said, “I’ve got an exciting style, I come forward and aggressive with fast hands. I’ve got a bit of power as well – fans are going to love watching me fight.” He explained his decision, stating, “I feel like now is the right time to turn pro because everything has fallen into place for me.” Regarding his Olympic aspirations, Bevan remarked, “The Olympic dream didn’t work out for me this year. I had the option to wait another four years and try to go to the LA Olympics, but I just feel like I’m at a good age now. I can take my time in the pros and really build into it.” Post navigation Leigh Leopards Imposes Indefinite Ban on Fan for Pyrotechnics Incident Benfica Defender Tomas Araujo Attracts Interest from Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace
