Tankers are scheduled to transport sewage during the temporary deactivation of a pumping station, facilitating repair operations on a ruptured sewer line. Southern Water confirmed that the sewer located off Appley Road, Ryde, which conveys wastewater from Ryde to the Sandown treatment works, had suffered a rupture. The pumping station will cease operations for the duration of the repairs, with 20 tankers assigned to transport waste to 28 designated holding tanks. The water utility company stated that the work is slated to commence at 18:00 GMT on 4 December. On Sunday, tankers were positioned along Appley Road, engaged in collecting wastewater from the compromised sewer for conveyance to the Sandown treatment works. A Southern Water spokesperson commented: “Due to the nature of the repair, it will cause disruption and require us to use a large number of tankers, which are currently located at Appley Car Park, following agreement with Isle of Wight Council.” “We have contacted key stakeholders in the area and will send letters to nearby residents and text messages with further information in the coming days.” “We’re sorry for the disruption.”
