A tandem hearse has been located after an appeal was launched to grant a man’s final request for “one last ride with his friends.” A Natural Undertaking, a firm based in Birmingham, informed BBC Radio WM earlier this week that the man, whose funeral is scheduled for Friday, desired his friends to accompany his body on a four-mile journey to his burial site. The company initiated an appeal after the tandem hearse it had initially intended to use required repairs. Kerri Deeley, representing the company, stated that she had received an overwhelming number of responses in recent days, with a Dorset-based firm providing assistance. She specified that Dorset Carriage Masters had volunteered to transport the specialized bicycle on Friday morning, in preparation for the man’s final journey. Tandem hearses are designed to accommodate either two riders with a coffin secured to the side, or four riders with a coffin positioned on a central platform. Ms Deeley noted that individuals from across the country had contacted them, having either located a comparable hearse or proposed methods for constructing one. Numerous cycling organizations reached out to the company to offer their support, including a group in Suffolk that brought up the appeal during their club meeting on Tuesday. Ms Deeley expressed that it was “a really good feeling” to be able to grant the man’s final wishes. She also commended the public’s reaction to the appeal, indicating that it demonstrated that communicating one’s desires to family “isn’t a taboo any more.” The funeral company frequently assists individuals who are terminally ill and wish to arrange a distinctive funeral service. Ms Deeley further remarked, “What better way, if he was a biker, than to go on a pushbike to his final resting place.” For more content, follow BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
