Local media outlets are reporting that Swedish rapper Gaboro, whose real name was Ninos Khouri, has been fatally shot in a multi-storey car park. Several Swedish newspapers indicate that this incident occurred on Thursday night in Norrköping, a city located to the south-west of Stockholm. In a statement released on Friday, police announced they are investigating the suspected murder of a man in his 20s. He died from his injuries following a shooting near a parking garage in Norrköping. Tributes for Khouri, who had hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners on the music streaming platform Spotify, have been shared by fellow musicians since his death was reported. On Thursday, Swedish DJ Alan Max posted a photo of himself with Khouri on social media, writing “have no words”. Rapper Imenella also added: “Rest in peace”. A video, purportedly filmed by the shooter of the incident, began circulating online shortly after it took place. It appears to show a man being shot while attempting to flee in a car park. The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that police would not confirm if the video was directly related to the shooting, but stated it was of interest to their investigation. Swedish police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen a silver station wagon “that may be relevant to the case”. They also added that officers are working “very intensively” on the investigation. Khouri gained prominence in 2022 when his song Browski went viral on TikTok. Following this success, he released a full-length album and accumulated over 100 million song streams on Spotify. Khouri was known for consistently wearing a balaclava and sunglasses, completely obscuring his face. His death marks the second Swedish rapper to be fatally shot this year. C.Gambino, whose real name was Karar Ramadan (not to be confused with US rapper Childish Gambino), was killed in June after being named hip-hop artist of the year at the country’s Grammy awards. Einar, another award-winning Swedish rapper, was killed in a gang shooting in 2021. In 2022, Khouri was convicted of minor drug offences. Last month, the local newspaper Norrköping Tidningar claimed he had ties to a criminal gang.
