Luke Williams intends to spend the Christmas period preparing Swansea City to “make a better performance” against Queens Park Rangers, following their disappointing defeat at Hull City. Swansea delivered their worst display of the current season, suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of a Tigers team that had not secured a win in 13 previous matches. Williams’ squad is scheduled to resume play facing QPR on December 26, followed by an additional home fixture against Luton Town three days subsequent to that date. Following the disappointing outcome at Hull – which occurred a week after a difficult loss to Sunderland – Swansea requires an improvement in their performance standards as they prepare to face a Queens Park Rangers team currently in strong form. Williams stated, “If you think as a head coach that your team is never going to lose a couple of games, you are in the wrong industry.” He added, “I have to continue to try to get to the bottom of the weak performance [at Hull] and try to prepare for the next game. We will try to make a better performance in that one.” Williams also remarked, “We have to prepare the best we can and I need to try to select the right line-up to go into that game.” Swansea’s recent two results have disrupted their previously good run of form. The club from Wales had maintained an unbeaten streak across four matches before suffering a home defeat to Sunderland, even after establishing a 2-0 advantage. Following criticism regarding their mindset after that loss, Swansea appeared unable to recover at Hull, where they were outplayed for the entire duration of the match. The Swans are scheduled to conduct training on Christmas day – a plan that was in place irrespective of the Hull result – with Williams indicating that he and his team must strive to perform for their fans when they face QPR. He commented, “We need to make sure we are good entertainment at Christmas time for families who love their football club.” Williams further stated, “We are the entertainment and that’s a privilege. We will try to fit in family time, but we have to remember our responsibility to bring Christmas cheer to all Swans.”
