Cyrus Christie, who has earned 30 caps for the Republic of Ireland, has been signed by Swansea City on a deal that will run until the end of the current season. The 32-year-old, who had been without a club since his departure from Hull City at the close of last season, commenced training with Swansea in early October. Head coach Luke Williams views the versatile Christie as a player capable of covering any defensive position. This marks Christie’s second period at Swansea, having previously played for the club during a loan spell. Christie featured in 23 games for Swansea and scored three goals in the latter half of the 2021-22 season, after joining on loan from Fulham. Then-Swansea boss Russell Martin had shown interest in securing the Republic of Ireland international on a permanent basis, but Christie instead chose to join Hull City. Williams commented, “He is experienced at the level. He is a powerful athlete he can defend and he can attack, so I am really happy. We struggle a little bit with Championship experience and he gives us a physicality that we don’t have a huge amount of without the likes of Ben Cabango and Harry Darling.” Post navigation Hallgrimsson Expresses Satisfaction with Republic of Ireland’s World Cup Qualifying Group Darren Murphy’s Irish Premiership Boxing Day Match Predictions
