The organizers of a fireworks display, which was previously canceled due to safety concerns, have indicated that a smaller iteration might be reinstated in the future. Hull Wyke Round Table, a volunteer organization, was responsible for hosting this event at Humberdale Farm in Swanland. A spokesperson for the group stated: “Post pandemic the numbers attending exploded. We thought something could easily go wrong here and it wasn’t worth the risk.” They further added, “In the future, we may return with a scaled back ticketed event.” This event, which operated on a pay-on-arrival basis, had been active for over 35 years, drawing more than 5,000 attendees at its peak. However, Hull Wyke Round Table announced the cancellation of this year’s event via a Facebook post, citing that “issues around security and health and safety, as well as traffic congestion through Swanland and on the A164 over the last few years have given us serious cause for concern”. The post also conveyed: “in terms of safety, the event can no longer continue in its current fashion”. David Sayers, who serves as the treasurer for Hull Wyke Round Table, commented: “We’d had complaints about congestion in Swanland and parking issues.” He also mentioned, “We have considered employing contractors, but there’s a cost involved.” Organizers confirmed that exploring a different venue is among the options under consideration for future events.
