The annual Christmas cards for the Mayor of Swale have been designed with the assistance of four schoolchildren. Mayor Ben Martin extended an invitation to students from Ethelbert Road School in Faversham, Kent, his former primary institution, asking them to produce holiday-themed artwork for inclusion on the Christmas cards he distributes. Every young participant submitted artwork, and the winning selections included contributions from two five-year-olds and one 10-year-old. Additionally, a poem composed by an eight-year-old was selected for inclusion inside each card. From a pool of 20 finalists, the chosen winning artworks consist of two paintings depicting Christmas trees and a pencil drawing illustrating Santa Claus descending a chimney. Mr Martin stated: “I wanted to get local children involved in Swale’s Christmas traditions this year, so I took a trip back to my old primary school.” He added: “It was incredibly difficult to pick the winners of our competition but I can’t wait to send out these fun cards and know they will bring a smile to the face of everyone who received them, like they did when I was looking at all of the submissions.” For updates, follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
