Several of the season’s largest bonfire events are scheduled to take place in Sussex this Saturday. Battle’s bonfire night, which dates back to 1646, will include a parade through the town and fireworks. The town claims to possess the world’s oldest bonfire society. The head of its Guy is believed to have been created around 1795 and is made from pear wood. Littlehampton’s bonfire and parade took place last Saturday, following a successful appeal that raised £10,000. Elsewhere in Sussex, firework displays occurring this Saturday include one at Cuckfield Park, which will be choreographed to music, and another at Stone Cross Farm in Wadhurst, which claims to be “one of the biggest displays in the county.” One of the UK’s most significant bonfire events is set to be held in Lewes on Tuesday, with tens of thousands of people expected to attend.
