Law enforcement officials reported the arrest of an individual who, while attempting to evade police, found himself being “chased by cows.” The North Yorkshire force stated that the man initially drew police attention following reports of a vehicle on fire in North Deighton, Harrogate, early on 3 November. Police subsequently tracked the man and two other individuals to a VW Polo on the A168 near Hambleton. The vehicle refused to stop, even after officers deployed a stinger to puncture its tyres. Officers indicated that two of the suspects later fled on foot, with one having “a brief encounter with some curious cows.” Authorities confirmed that the driver, a 22-year-old from Eston in Cleveland, was apprehended at the scene. Registration plates from the burnt-out car, a machete, and a petrol container were recovered from the Polo. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, being equipped to steal, possession of an offensive weapon, and arson. The man who had been pursued by cows was located and detained by a police dog. The 19-year-old, from Normanby, Cleveland, was arrested on suspicion of being equipped to steal, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a Class B drug, and arson. A third man is still being sought. The force announced that the two arrested men have since been released on conditional bail as investigations continue.
