Law enforcement officials have engaged with numerous residents, specifically hundreds, within Surrey Heath as part of an initiative aimed at preventing burglaries, responding to what has been described as a “spate of offending.” Lisa Townsend, the Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), accompanied officers during these efforts, aiming to provide reassurance to local residents, offer advice on prevention, and distribute complimentary motion alarms. According to Mrs. Townsend, the majority of burglaries happen when occupants are away from their residences and under the cover of darkness. The PCC remarked, “Becoming a victim of a burglary has a really significant impact that often lingers long after the crime has taken place.” The office of the PCC reported that 43 burglaries have been carried out in Surrey Heath since the start of September. Mrs. Townsend stated: “The team here in Surrey Heath are doing all they can to track down the individuals responsible for these appalling crimes, and I know how hard all staff, officers and volunteers are working to end this spate of offending.” The PCC’s office indicated that Mrs. Townsend participated in patrols with officers across Camberley, Windlesham, Frimley, Lightwater, West End, and Bisley. Furthermore, it was reported that officers have visited approximately 400 residences in the vicinity over recent weeks, both to reassure inhabitants and to provide guidance on preventing burglaries.
