A Surrey NHS trust has designated an 80-year-old breast cancer survivor as its volunteer of the year. Marion Dante has dedicated 25 years to fundraising efforts benefiting patients of the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. Her inspiration to volunteer emerged in the 1990s, following her cancer treatment, when a radiologist requested her assistance in raising funds. Ms Dante stated: “I got a huge amount of support during my treatment, and wanted to give something back.” She consistently volunteers with the Fountain Centre, contributing to fundraising for the charity that offers wellbeing support to cancer patients and their families. Ms Dante’s fundraising activities have encompassed a variety of methods, from collecting donations with tins in various weather conditions to orchestrating major events. Susan Jordan, the income generation lead for the Fountain Centre, commented: “Marion embodies the spirit of selflessness and dedication, consistently prioritising the wellbeing of others. “Her long-standing commitment to the Fountain Centre is a testament to her extraordinary character and unwavering dedication to making a difference.”
