Details have been released regarding the upcoming seventh annual Surrey Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025. This occasion is designed to celebrate the county and motivate residents to learn more about their local area. Surrey Day is a collaborative effort involving BBC Radio Surrey, Visit Surrey, and the Surrey Lieutenancy, and its central theme for the coming year will focus on Surrey’s contributions during World War Two. Mark Carter, who serves as deputy managing editor of BBC South and is the founder of Surrey Day, stated: “The second Saturday of May each year is now a firm fixture in the diary for so many people and I can’t wait to get the party started!” The chosen theme for 2025 aligns with the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and a dedicated radio series will be broadcast as part of these observances. An additional theme for the day is ‘take the lead,’ promoting outdoor activity and walks across the Surrey countryside. The local community consistently plays a central role in the annual event. Christine Howard, Chair of Visit Surrey, commented: “We’re also seeing more cafes, restaurants, plus museums and other local attractions all getting involved and lending their support.” The 2024 Surrey Day focused on the theme ‘Surrey from the Sky’ and featured radio broadcasts from Birdworld in Farnham and Brooklands Museum in Woking.
