Communities throughout Surrey are set to convene this weekend for Remembrance Sunday, commemorating individuals who perished in conflict. At war memorials across the county, significant attendance is anticipated for services where wreaths will be placed and moments of silence observed to honor the deceased. Additionally, various towns and villages will host annual parades, concluding with services at nearby churches. A compilation of some scheduled events for this year has been assembled. For Guildford, a service is scheduled at Holy Trinity Church, commencing just prior to 10:00 GMT. This event will occur subsequent to the placement of flowers beneath the VC stones in Tunsgate by the Mayor of Guildford and additional dignitaries. Following the service, the parade will assemble around 10:30 on Guildford High Street, with the Friary Brass band at its head. Within the castle grounds at 11:00, the two-minute silence will be observed, accompanied by the playing of The Last Post and the placement of wreaths. In Camberley, the Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade is slated to proceed at 15:00, involving the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, alongside local cadet and uniformed organizations. The procession is set to commence at St Michael’s Church and advance along London Road towards the War Memorial, where a wreath-laying observance will occur. Subsequent to this ceremony, the procession will extend onto Park Street. Remembrance Sunday services are planned for Shaw’s Corner War Memorial in Redhill and at Banstead War Memorial, succeeded by a parade moving from The Horseshoe to the War Memorial. Jubilee Square, situated in Woking town centre, is designated to host the borough’s Festival of Remembrance. A joint choir, comprising the Woking Ladies Choir and Salvation Army Band, will perform hymns and the National Anthem during a remembrance service. A member of the Salvation Army Band will play The Last Post, preceding a parade featuring uniformed units and organizations. At Ashford, Spelthorne, the Royal British Legion is scheduled to conduct its yearly service in the Memorial Gardens, where veterans will participate alongside the Mayor of Ashford and other officials in the Garden of Remembrance. A Concert for Remembrance Sunday is scheduled to take place starting at 19:00 at St Michael’s Church on Old London Road, Mickleham. Described as “inspiring and evocative”, the concert will present selections from the Mozart Requiem in addition to modern compositions and readings commemorating the event.
