A proposal for numerous affordable new residences in a section of Birmingham has received preliminary endorsement. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has given its in-principle agreement to invest several million pounds in a project for a new residential high-rise situated at the northern end of Digbeth High Street, close to Camp Hill. The development encompasses 481 apartments, with over half designated as affordable units, of which 141 are allocated for social rent. According to the authority, all residences within the project will utilize solar panels and heat pumps for power, aiming to lower energy costs for occupants. In addition to the numerous affordable new homes, the development, located on the 1.3-acre (0.5-hectare) plot of a former storage facility, situated off Clyde Street, is also planned to incorporate five commercial spaces and a small park adorned with numerous trees. The WMCA’s approval will now lead to discussions with Latimer, which is the development division of Clarion Housing Group, responsible for implementing the project.
