These clinics are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at Biz Space, situated close to the Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre, and require prior appointment booking. The UK Health Security Agency has advised families residing in the West Midlands to secure vaccinations, citing data that indicates a significant number of children remain vulnerable to influenza. The agency reported that vaccination rates among primary school-aged children in the region ranged from a high of 49.9% to a low of 18.6%. These supplementary clinics are accessible to students from reception through Year 11. Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the cabinet member for adults and wellbeing, noted a nationwide increase in flu cases, especially among primary and secondary school-aged children. She stated that influenza has the potential to be fatal and spreads readily. She further emphasized, “The free vaccine is the best way to protect your children and other family members, particularly more vulnerable relatives like grandparents or those with underlying health conditions.” She also highlighted, “The vaccination is quick and safe and it’s also needle-free for most children because it can be given via a nasal spray, rather than via injection.” Concurrently, hospitals across the West Midlands report experiencing strain due to the volume of flu-related illnesses. Certain facilities are presently treating considerably more patients than during the highest point of the previous winter season. Healthcare professionals are conducting two visits to every school in Wolverhampton to administer vaccines. The supplementary clinics are intended for parents and guardians of children who either missed both scheduled school dates, are educated at home, or prefer a clinic setting for vaccination.
