Lorrie Thackeray, a Halloween enthusiast, has stated his intention to “definitely scare some people” this spooky season, having transformed his residence for the tenth consecutive year. Thackeray refers to his property, located on Peterhouse Crescent in Woodbridge and appearing as a conventional home during daylight hours, as “Suffolk’s scariest house.” The 31-year-old began converting his house into an eerie Halloween attraction in 2014, and this yearly spectacle typically draws hundreds of courageous attendees. For the current year, he is urging those who support the event to contribute to Bowel Cancer UK, prompted by his mother’s personal encounter with the illness. Mr. Thackeray’s passion for Halloween began when he was seven years old. He recounted, “I always used to decorate the front of my mum’s house and put speakers outside the window and play creepy music.” He added, “Most children think about Christmas but I was always the opposite and loved Halloween and the history of it and that obsession grew with me really.” Thackeray further explained his perspective, stating, “I like the fear, but it always turns into laughter. Like a rollercoaster you get scared but once you are on it, and you get off it, you are happy.” The residence incorporates terrifying props and an unsettling maze experience. According to Mr. Thackeray, visitors have previously queued for 50 minutes to enter the house, and 344 individuals visited on a single Halloween evening. “It has just grown so big,” he remarked. He continued, “I build all my own pneumatic props and I have built a jack-in-the-box which is definitely going to scare people – even the bravest of people.”
