A local council is encouraging residents to recycle their unwanted electrical items in anticipation of the Christmas period. Situated at Ebley Mill, the main office of Stroud District Council, a temporary collection point for Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) will operate until December 24. Items accepted, which include kettles, hairdryers, laptops, and electronic toys, will undergo a process of breakdown, shredding, and separation into their constituent materials for reprocessing into new goods. Nevertheless, Councillor Chloe Turner, who chairs Stroud District Council’s environment committee, advised individuals to consider reselling, donating to charity, or repairing items prior to recycling them. She further stated, “The WEEE collection point at Ebley Mill – alongside Pyke Quarry Household Recycling Centre and larger shops selling electrical items – can then be used as a last resort.” A reminder is being issued to the public to ensure batteries are removed from items before they are recycled. This initiative forms part of the nationwide campaign, Recycle Your Electricals, spearheaded by the not-for-profit organization Material Focus. Its objective is to simplify the reuse and recycling of unwanted electrical goods for all. Due to potential fire hazards, vapes and electronic cigarettes are not accepted, though items like radios and computer keyboards are permitted.
