Gusty conditions are prompting closures and event cancellations across parts of the South East during the pre-Christmas weekend. A yellow wind warning is active in other areas of the UK, while motorists are advised to “be patient” as millions embark on journeys before Christmas. RHS Wisley in Surrey has announced that sections of its gardens will be inaccessible on Saturday and Sunday due to the prevailing weather. In Staines, a snow globe event, which features a large inflatable globe, has been called off for the second time, having previously been cancelled in December during Storm Darragh. Spelthorne Borough Council stated that the event’s re-cancellation was a result of the strong winds predicted. “We are very sorry for any inconvenience,” they communicated in a post on X. Further cancellations have occurred in other areas of the South East, with the Brighton Winter Fayre also being cancelled for the second occasion this month. RHS Wisley confirmed that Battleston Hill and the Pinetum are closed, but the remainder of its garden will stay open, and the RHS Glow event is scheduled to proceed as planned.
