The attire from “Strictly Come Dancing” is now exhibited in Blackpool, coinciding with the live broadcast of the program from the town. The BBC One series annually visits the Tower Ballroom in the resort, recognized as one of the globe’s most renowned dancefloors. Sparkling outfits, previously worn on the program by notable figures such as singer Alexandra Burke and “Coronation Street” actress Tina O’Brien, are showcased within the dance gallery of Blackpool’s Showtown museum. Marina Blore, who serves as the artistic director for Blackpool’s Capital of Dance festival, stated that “dance has been right the way through our DNA”. Ms. Blore commented, “The sparkles, the glamour – it’s what we all want to see,” and further described the garments as “great examples of the work of the costume team under the magnificent leadership of Vicky Gill.” She expressed delight in welcoming “all of the glamorous dancers” from “Strictly” this weekend and in the opportunity “to raise awareness of what Blackpool is all about.” According to Ms. Blore, Blackpool’s legacy in dance dates back to the Victorian period and has consistently attracted visitors to the resort. Emily Langridge, an exhibitions assistant at the Showtown entertainment museum, remarked, “We are really lucky to have these amazing dresses in our collection.” Among the items on display is a carnation pink and ocean blue ballroom dress, worn by “Coronation Street” actress Tina O’Brien in 2010. Additionally, the exhibit includes a navy and black Paso Doble dress adorned with sequins, beads, and rhinestones, donned by actress Felicity Kendal in 2010, as well as a sunrise yellow dress embellished with topaz crystals, worn by presenter Anita Rani in 2015. Alexandra Burke’s gown was utilized for her Viennese Waltz performance during the 2017 semi-final. These garments will remain on exhibition at Showtown until November 24.
