A cake decorating club has generated over £13,400 for charitable causes through the sale of almost 140 themed baked goods. The Stowmarket SugarCraft Club, located in Suffolk, created and exhibited a diverse selection of cakes at the St Elizabeth Hospice charity shop within the town. The club initially gathered £6,426, an amount subsequently supplemented by a construction company that had pledged to either match or surpass the sum collected. Glenda Price, who serves as the chairwoman of the Stowmarket SugarCraft Club, stated that the group had “really excelled ourselves this year”. Mrs Price informed BBC Radio Suffolk that the group has organized cake “extravaganzas” annually before Christmas for the last six years, accumulating £57,573 during that period. “We had cakes that looked like snowdomes with Father Christmas in front of them, we had cakes with penguins playing by ponds.” “We had a cake that looks like a piece of cheddar cheese with a piece of Stilton on top with mice stealing it.” Mrs Price personally packaged each of the 137 cakes, which were then exhibited in the charity shop for a duration of two weeks. She explained that the proceeds from each cake sold, combined with the matching funds provided by Precon Products Ltd, would finance a nurse’s visit to an individual’s home during Christmas to ensure their comfort and freedom from pain. “What is Christmas about if it isn’t about something like that,” she said. Mrs Price indicated that they intend to postpone planning for a recurring “extravaganza” in 2025 until next year. “We always wait until Easter to start talking about that because we’re only a little club, we have to see what our numbers are.” Post navigation West of England Briefs: Local Developments and Alerts Volkswagen Vans Transformed for ‘Epic’ Christmas Light Displays
