Beverley’s Festival of Christmas, which was scheduled to occur on Sunday, has been canceled because of Storm Darragh. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council announced the event’s cancellation, citing safety concerns that arose from weather warnings predicting heavy rain and severe winds. A spokesperson for the council conveyed that they understood individuals would be “disappointed” and emphasized that the decision had “not been taken lightly.” The authority also stated its intention to communicate with all traders and stallholders concerning refund procedures. According to a council spokesperson, the organization of the event spanned a period of six months. “While we fully appreciate residents, visitors and traders will be extremely disappointed, the safety of all involved is our primary concern and this decision has not been taken lightly.” The council further indicated it would provide guidance on refunds and expressed gratitude to everyone for their understanding and support.
