A number of weekend events in Surrey have been called off as the county gets ready for Storm Darragh, the most recent of this winter’s storms. Storm Darragh is predicted to deliver wind gusts of 90mph (144 km/h) or higher to the western UK starting in the early hours of Saturday, prompting the issuance of an unusual red warning. In the South East, winds are anticipated to gust at speeds up to 50mph (80km/h). The primary rail operator in the county has also cautioned about possible service disruptions. Guildford’s festive market, originally set for Sunday, has been cancelled; its organizers stated the decision was made to “ensure the safety of visitors and stallholders”. Farnham Town Council has declared that its Christmas market, also planned for Sunday, will no longer proceed. The Vintage Frog antique and craft fair in Gomshall, which was scheduled for Saturday, has also been cancelled. In Staines, the snow globe event, featuring a giant inflatable globe, has been cancelled for Saturday. The tourist organization Visit Surrey has recommended that anyone intending to attend a Christmas event this weekend verify its status in advance. Southwestern Railway reported that services across its network might experience cancellations, delays, or revisions throughout Saturday. For updates, follow BBC Surrey on Facebook and X.
