Steph Houghton has rejoined Manchester City, taking on two off-field positions: club ambassador and project officer. This appointment follows the former City captain’s retirement at the close of last season, after a decade of service with the club. Houghton marks a historical first as the inaugural female to become an official representative of the club, joining notable figures such as Mike Summerbee, Joleon Lescott, and Shaun Wright-Phillips in this capacity. In her role as club ambassador, Houghton will represent the club at matches and various events globally. For her project officer duties, the club has indicated that Houghton will “liaise and gain valuable experience with various footballing departments at the City Football Academy.” “Everybody knows how much this club means to me,” Houghton stated. “I’m really excited to be in and around everyone again.” She further elaborated on her feelings post-retirement, adding, “When you retire you miss that environment and being part of a team. If I wasn’t here and part of the club still that would be a massive miss for me.”
