Portsmouth secured their largest victory of the season with a 3-0 win against Bristol City on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run in the Championship to three matches. A single point earned at Fratton Park on Tuesday night could potentially move Pompey out of the relegation zone. Conversely, Norwich’s two-game winning streak concluded with a 3-0 defeat to QPR on Saturday, leaving them six points adrift of the play-off positions. The Canaries have also not recorded a victory in their last six away fixtures in the Championship. In their last five league encounters with Norwich City, Portsmouth have suffered only one defeat (W2 D2), although that sole loss was their most recent meeting against the Canaries in May 2011, which ended 1-0. Following their 1-0 victory in May 2011, Norwich aims to achieve consecutive league away wins at Portsmouth, a feat they have not accomplished since October 1970. Norwich has experienced only one loss in their last seven league matches against newly promoted teams (W4 D2); this defeat occurred earlier this season in an away game against Oxford United, ending 0-2. This season, Portsmouth has been defeated in all three of their midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) league fixtures, a consecutive losing streak not seen since February 2013 when they lost seven in a row. Nevertheless, Pompey maintains an unbeaten record in 17 such home matches (W12 D5) since their 4-0 loss to Ipswich in October 2021. Norwich has not secured a victory in 12 midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) away league games (D5 L7) since their 2-1 win against Birmingham City in August 2022.
