Individuals employed by the States may undergo drug screening starting next year. The States Employment Board announced that a consultation regarding a Substance Misuse Policy, which will apply to all public servants, is scheduled for early 2025. The board indicated its intention to engage with unions, employee networks, staff groups, and occupational health specialists concerning the proposal. The policy’s introduction is anticipated in the summer of 2025. In a statement made earlier in 2024, Chief Minister Deputy Lyndon Farnham indicated that ministers were evaluating both mandatory and optional drug testing for individuals employed by the States. Authorities will also assess how this policy might address the use of medicinal cannabis, which is prescribed to 6.08% of the island’s working age population.
